To Much Empty To Much

Post  Guest Wed Nov 12, 2008 3:58 pm

Hi everybody
I have a question
I really like the maps on the NQ server but aren't there to manny maps?
People who dont know some maps cant learn them because there are so manny maps and it takes a while before you can play that map again.
I give an example:caen2 (i know the map but it's just an example)
So caen2: you play caen2, map is over, then 20 maps or something, and than caen2 again. If you don't know caen2 it takes a while before you know the map
Now, i don't have problems with the maps on NQ but maybe there are some players who do have that problem
Thats why i post this topic

Maybe you are right, but i like the maps the way there are and there are enough!
And for practicing the maps, most of the time maps take some time for its over (at least what is see) and you can always vote for a longer time to play it and if i am right the most maps are also on scrim server and that server is most of the time empty. ( I dont think every map we have on public server will be in the scrim server rotation, but its maybe an idea). And in scrim server u can vote for a kind of map, this is not possible in public, you maybe noticed that.

I think there are 32 maps running at the minute.

I didn't deliberatley set out to have 32, that's just how it eneded up with me adding maps that people request.

If anyone wants that changed call a vote and we can decide how many it is the majority want.

If you want to have a look at a map you are not familiar with just start ET bring down the console and type /map caen2 (for example)

You can run around and do the map with nobody interrupting you by blowing your head off !

I don't think there is a problem with the amount of maps even as the time.
When you're online much the maps will come again.
When there are only for example 10 maps and you're playing it can that after 1 hour you played all maps twive or even three times. And if thats so it starting to get borred verry soon.
Now you have the problem of new maps but they don't change al at once. From time to time there are a few new or even a few old that comes back on request of members.
And when you are online alone you can vote for a next map or adding time (as you're alone the vote will always pass) so you can explore the map some longer or go exploring a next map if you like.
And you also can explorer in spec a map when there a plenty of people online.
when you start to know the people who live on this server you know who just frags or who like to do the mission goals, so you know who you have to spec for certain reasons.
And i always like a new map.
You have to start finding al new goals and places to hide and where others can hide.
on the most common maps you can predict how others will react or what path they are going to take. In a new you have to start from scratsh looking for everything.

I always watch where I'm putting my feet if Slayer is on the other team.

It used to be a pain having a bot server, we were limited to how many maps we could have because we had to rely on someone waypointing them.

Now that I can waypoint them myself it has opened up the possibility of virtually any map we want.

(Although some maps are beyond my amatuer waypointing abilities)

I did have a bit of a spree last month waypointing some maps that I had never heard of, that is why they are new to lots of people.

I agree with Stef about learning new maps, and I will only put the odd new one on the server now and again.

The problem is that when someone joins the server they are hit with six or seven maps that they will never have played before. (Including our own {GTB} map)

It wont take too long to get to know them though, and I think the unusal name in the connect area attracts some peoples attention.

It always does with me ! (Not that I would ever dream of playing on another server of course)

I personally like having lots of maps, it gets boring when theres only a few and you are playing for some time, like i do some days.
As granny said anyone can run around a map, and you don't get interupted, its a great way to find your way around, either that or sit in spec and fly around the map or follow somone who knows the map.

Hmmmm
I always watch where I'm putting my feet if Slayer is on the other team.

ETPro's most popular server has a map cycle of around 6-8 maps.

these are the ones I remember:

Frostbite
Braundorf
Adlernest
Supply
Special Delivery
SW Gold Rush TE

though they use all the competition maps, + these may not fit well to NQ (like FeulDump)

and in my opinion most of the maps on the GTB serv are alright ;] but some terrible ones ;p.

the only problem i have with maps is something granny touched on..

we want to attract more players to server yet they cant play cos they need to download lots of new maps...hmmm download for half an hour or try somewhere else..

maybe once in awhile scale them back to the "most popular" maps get the players in the door and then start introducing more maps.

on the other hand i could be talking complete drivel and be in need of urgent medication To Much 436740

I agree with that completely, but it's very difficult to get a balance that everyone likes, impossible in fact.

If I do find a map to try I usually only put it on server if it's under 10mb, but with the custom pk3s too there is always going to be large downloads.

I think No Quarter is one of the biggest, if not the biggest mod as it is.

I am happy to make it 20 maps or whatever, if that's what the majority want.

I'm sure there are a few maps that people wouldn't mind losing.

(Not our {GTB} one though, took me ages)

I will see what the outcome of this thread is and have another look, I will leave it as is for now though.

I like it like it is. But maybe you can stop changing maps for say till the end of this year ?? Then new visitors doens't need to download that many and you have a few weeks of.

And downloading only thakes a few minutes (even here at work with prehistoric internet). At home i download a map in less than 30 sec.

you'll never download a map (that's around 10Mb or slightly bigger) more than 5 minutes if your D/L speed is above 50 kb/s

and most of us have that speed...
